The field of legal search consulting evolved in the late 1960’s as a response to developing demands for specialized consulting services in the hiring of attorneys. Since then, the industry has grown dramatically and continues to do so. However, in the early days of the profession, dialogue among legal search practitioners was virtually nonexistent and lack of consistent standards of practice marred the credibility of the legal search profession.
To provide an effective forum for dialogue among legal recruiters and develop consistent standards within the industry, the National Association of Legal Search Consultants was founded in 1984 by a group of the nation’s leading legal search experts. NALSC’s primary goal continues to be elevation of the professionalism of the field by establishing a standard of ethical business conduct. Today, NALSC members agree to abide by the NALSC Code of Ethics®. NALSC also provides an educational forum for members and for the legal and business community, and allows NALSC members to learn, discuss best practices and socialize together.
